Did you know stress is the cause for 70-80% of disease and illness? (according to the American Medical Association) These statistics are devastating but we Americans often push ourselves to our limits with deadlines, traffic, too much stimulation, and financial pressure. When you are stressed, your natural killer cells which fight infection and disease are decreased. Stress seems to be a contributing factor in everything from cancer and chronic fatigue syndrome to backaches and insomnia.
Ways To Reduce Stress
1. Breathe - A simple technique: In through the nose out through the mouth. Imagine all the negative energy departing as you breathe out. Release the stress from head to toe.
2. Share a good laugh- belly laughs are the best medicine to bring back balance & positive energy.
3. Abandon the TV for a week and give your mind a break from the assault on our senses. Instead, read a book, go for a walk, hop on the treadmill, do jumping jacks, socialize or turn on some music and groove. Feel the difference.
4. Do good for others. Doing good for others makes us feel good. Anxiety and stress involve a high degree of focus on the self, focusing on the needs of others literally helps shift our thinking. When you experience compassion and kindness, negative emotions tend to depart. Even better: Feeling good tends to makes us more likely to do more good. Welcome to the positive feel good loop. This is a cycle you may not want to break. So go ahead, help that random person you see on the street. Feel good about it and let the kindess roll.
5. Get a Massage. Research on massage therapy suggests that there is a reduction in stress levels following a massage. We in turn will feel less pain, less depressed and anxious, less fatigued, and have less difficulty falling asleep (Touch Research Institute). Massage puts you in a state of rest so that your body can effectively repair itself. It helps cleanse and detoxify the mind and body so you feel balanced again and free of pain.
Just Imagine.. you are laying on the massage table in full bliss as your muscles are skillfully worked and relaxed. Your pain and your troubles melt away as the soft music makes you feel like you are floating, letting the therapists' hands work wonders. Gone is the back pain and anxiety that existed all day. Bio: I am a massage therapist, musician, & educator. After receiving my B.A. in 2000, and working as a private music instructor for a few years, I decided to pursue a career in massage therapy. I saw it as another creative opportunity, and a way to help others through the healing art of touch.
In 2005 I started my own company called Relax to Rejuvenate, massage in your home and office. Bringing massage to a client\'s home has been an incredible & rewarding experience. It allows the client to continue the relaxation of their session in the privacy of their own home, undisturbed by the outside world.
Besides traveling to client's homes, I have worked in various settings providing massage services; spas, gyms, physical therapy practices and offices to name a few. Each environment has allowed me to work with different clientele and has provided me with a broad range of experience.
Each client is an individual, with different needs and concerns. My goal is to address those needs and concerns and leave the client feeling both relaxed and rejuvenated.
